On this bowl the design is pared back to two elements: cloud-shaped panels of reddish-brown lacquer with a bright red edge, and a lattice of gold-leaf diamonds laid across them in the yūsoku-hishi pattern of linked diamond shapes. The floral painting common to Hidehira-nuri is left out, so the clouds and gold stand quietly against the dark lacquer, under a thin band of gold leaf at the rim.\u003c\/p\u003e\n\u003ch2\u003eThe workshop\u003c\/h2\u003e\n\u003cp\u003eMarusan Shikki has worked in Hidehira-nuri since 1904, from a workshop in Ichinoseki now in its fifth generation.
