The defining characteristic of the Negoro finish is that no two pairs are exactly alike.
As layers of base lacquer and top lacquer overlap and are revealed through polishing, each pair develops its own color balance and surface expression. The smooth, matte texture feels gentle against the fingertips and settles comfortably in the hand from the first use.

Layered handwork rooted in the preservation of technique

This Negoro finish is produced out of a deep concern for the preservation of traditional techniques.
It has been continuously developed through self-directed study by the current chairman, Yoshiharu Katsumata. The process includes polishing with tsunoko (powdered horn) mixed with oil, a task that requires considerable strength and time.

As a result, these chopsticks require more than twice the production time of standard Joboji-nuri chopsticks. Efficiency is deliberately set aside in favor of safeguarding technique, with each pair embodying accumulated handwork and intention.
