A tetsubin placed quietly into everyday tea moments
Odaré Kazutama Arare is a cast iron kettle made for boiling water in daily use.
Its low, rounded body is encircled by a restrained Kazutama Arare pattern composed of small, evenly spaced dots, creating a calm and composed presence. Rather than being intended for special occasions, this tetsubin is designed to be used naturally as part of everyday tea time.
A distinctive handle and a stable, grounded form
The body is formed into a rounded silhouette with a low center of gravity, giving a strong sense of stability.
The Kazutama Arare pattern is applied sparingly, maintaining a quiet and orderly surface expression. A defining feature of this piece is its odaré handle, shaped with gentle undulations. While forming a generous arc, it fits comfortably in the hand and allows pouring movements to settle naturally. The spout is kept short and set at a natural angle, supporting a calm and effortless user experience in daily use.
Consideration and process behind the completed form
This piece is cast using the sogata method.
Due to the design, the mold structure is particularly fragile, requiring exceptional care during removal after casting. By releasing the mold gently, without applying excessive force, the form, pattern, and distinctive handle are preserved. Layers of careful judgment and restraint—largely invisible in the finished piece—support the successful realization of this tetsubin.
