A lacquered round tray that quietly expands the role of the dining table

This 270 mm round tray is made as an everyday-use tray.

While it is designed to carry tea or meals, it can also be used as a single plate to present food or sweets. In fact, the maker has even used it as a cake plate for a birthday celebration.

Rather than fixing its purpose, this tray adapts naturally to the needs of the table on any given day.

A form that works both as a tray and as a plate

With a diameter of 270 mm, the tray offers ample surface area while maintaining a calm, unobtrusive presence.

The gently raised rim provides stability when carrying. It can hold drinks and sweets together, gather a single meal on one surface, or serve as a plate that highlights cakes or baked goods.

Because its form does not limit how it should be used, it settles effortlessly into everyday life.

Quiet tension held within a broad surface

Due to its large surface area, this round tray is a piece that requires particular care during the final lacquering process.

The environment is carefully controlled to prevent dust, and the flow of lacquer and reflection of light are closely observed to avoid unevenness. Each tray is finished patiently so that depth and a calm expression naturally emerge within its smooth, matte surface.

Recommended for

  • Those who want to use trays as everyday tools, not special-occasion items
  • Those looking for a single piece that can serve multiple purposes
  • Those who wish to incorporate lacquerware naturally into daily dining

Not recommended for users who require dishwasher or microwave compatibility.

  • Cultural Heritage Restoration — Joboji urushi is used in the restoration of Japan’s most important cultural properties, including Chusonji Konjikido (Golden Hall), Nikko Toshogu, and Kinkakuji (Golden Pavilion).
